Week 1
The first week will be an introduction to the chakras with an in-depth view and analysis of body functions, physiology and psychological characteristics of each energy form (chakra). This proceeds into a detailed study of the Hindu deities and the relevance of the symbolism – and what the symbolic language reveals to us in terms of modern interpretations of our mind/energy connections to the divine forces of the universe. The rich symbolism of Hindu mythology can be interpreted in ways that lead to deep understanding of how our mind and consciousness work regarding the quantum energies of the cosmos, and our receptivity to these forces.
Tuning in to these energy vortexes we call Chakras is much like selecting the channel on your TV or station on your radio. With the methods and techniques of Yoga, working with the mind is like having a remote control for your TV, the mind can be directed to various levels or departments of universal knowledge to access information leading to a more enlightened state. With the awakening practices for this mental development are classical methods of hatha yoga postures and movements, breathing techniques, and relaxation sessions as preparation for the concentration and meditation techniques to unfold each chakra.
Week 2
The second week will go deeper into the methods and techniques for exploring these inner realms through applied meditation and concentration. Each week will also include daily practice of asana (posture) pranayama (breathing) and movement for awakening and creating flows within the energy fields. Dance like flows done with music are designed with the abilities of the students in mind; with the breath added in ways that elevate consciousness to a blissful state. Discussions on the effects of all practices are part of daily routine.
Evening sessions involve advanced concentration methods that bring in technology in the form of visual techniques with special lighting and sound formulas which step beyond conventional mantra. The eye opening and mind expanding methods have been described as inspiring and awesome. Meditational states are a natural resting place of the mind; from that place we begin to explore and work with the manifesting abilities of creative consciousness and look at how we create and/or re-create our lives.
PS: During both weeks there will be afternoon hikes through mountain trails, and other activities.
Week 3
Far from being created for a young acrobatic generation, this course has been thought out in consideration of those who could benefit greatly from yoga but shy away because of postures and positions impossible for them. Yoga has been used as a re-generating and anti-aging system for centuries without being acrobatic. In this program the methods of deep breathing which stimulate cell rejuvenation through increased Oxygen can be done sitting in a chair. The postures and movements required to enhance circulation of the oxygen to all needy body parts can be done by anyone who can still move enough to breathe, while simply progressing to more advanced movements one step at a time, one day at a time.
The program is individualized for each participant, and done in small groups.
Some basic physiology and anatomy is taught so as to develop understanding of the principles of metabolism in this context of re-vitalizing organs and glands; explained with pictures and slides without getting too meticulous or overly detailed about every body function. Videos and documentaries on the latest scientific discoveries relating to health and aging will also be shown. More important is the experience of feeling the process as youthful vitality returns to our body systems. |
