Once upon a time in Japan, David had the experience of stepping into a modern structure that had been specifically built to make people aware of the effect of sound on human consciousness.
It was June 1970, and the scene was that of Expo 70 in Osaka. Many countries, and quite a few major corporations, had built pavilionsin which they displayed their cultures and their products. One of these was the German pavilion a large sphere into which they had placed 6,400 speakers of various sizes, shapes and types, connected to a whole array of amplifiers, mixers, reverbs and equalizers as well as some rather unique controllers with which they could direct specific sounds from one speaker to another. The effect created was a hypnotically enchanting experience of being enraptured in a whirlpool of sound, spinning mind and consciousness around as if being in some kind of orbit. Transcending the place where he had parked his body, David found himself in a meditational space referred to as samadhi. It was his first such experience, artificially induced through technological wisardry.
The following winter David was in India studying yoga at Ananda Ashram, where he learned about vibration and sound being the essence of life itself. He was being introduced to the world of the chakras, one in which everything was made of energy and that energy was in a constant state of vibration. The rate of vibration (frequency) determined the characteristics of that energy, and the mind was that with which we controlled the frequency. From the mind to our voice we could change the pitch of a sound, or change the sound altogether and in this way alter our thought process and bring it to a meditative state. This was the science of Mantra Yoga.
In traditional yoga practice many hours can be spent using sound by way of chanting (singing), to bring oneself to feel the vibration of our own energy. It is a way of getting in touch with ourselves, and in the process the harmonic influence of chanting creates a very healing effect on all the cells of the body which are affected by the motions of that vibration. The amount of time spent chanting can be significant in order to be effective, so with the experience of the German pavilionin mind, David created a sound meditation room in the first house he built in 1977. It was quite effective, and led him to develop the next phase several years later - a sound bed, and a sound chair.
Both the bed and the chair are designed to induce the experience of quantum vibration in the individual who is having the session. A twenty minute session can easily bring one to the realization that harmonic vibration is an incredibly healing force. The realization is a heart felt one, as the body perceptions are really feeling that vibratory movement.
In fact it is when our atoms and molecules are vibrating out of harmony that disharmony results - and we call it dis-ease. In Quantum Sound Therapy the harmony is re-instated through induction as all molecules are moved to the same tune by the vibrations of the special sounds in the music used. It was also discovered through the scientific research of Dr. David Schweitzer that disease occurs in an area of the body where the cells and their molecular structures are vibrating out of harmony. They are out of tune with each other. This is like two people trying to dance together but to the beat of a different drum, the flow just does not happen.
Sessions are available in Victoria and in Thailand. At our Pyramid Yoga Center in Thailand we also have the Sound Chamber for personal experiences and the more elaborate Sound Dome for deep journeys with groups of people.
